There is broad agreement that e-cigarettes are much less dangerous than tobacco but data on their actual health effects in humans are sparse. A new study examines key biomarkers of nicotine and smoking-related carcinogens, including tobacco-specific nitrosamines and volatile organic compounds, in e-cigarette users and in smokers, and compares them to users of conventional nicotine replacement therapy, a product with an established safety profile.
