working with us

Our ultimate goal is to facilitate more scientists to engage with the media, in the hope that the public will have improved access to accurate, evidence-based scientific information about the stories of the day.

journalists

The Science Media Centre provides journalists with what they need in the timeframe they need it, from interviews with leading experts to timely press briefings on topical issues.  We provide journalists with information about science and its related disciplines, making it easier for them to get access to the best evidence and expertise. Given our focus on science in the headlines, the SMC works mainly with science and news journalists in the UK’s national news outlets.

scientists

We work with scientists, engineers and other experts, helping them engage with the media and creating more opportunities for them to get their voices heard on the big science, health and environment stories of the day. The SMC also runs regular events to introduce experts to what media work involves, and provides guidelines and top tips on media work.

press officers

Primarily a press office, the Science Media Centre works closely with press officers from universities, industry, research funders, and other leading science and engineering institutions. We support them when they are working on complex science, health and environment stories, providing advice and an independent neutral venue where the science and engineering communities can come together to speak out on issues of major concern.
