expert encounter with Prof. Robert Watson on the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), which some describe as the ‘IPCC for Biodiversity’, is an independent intergovernmental body tasked with providing policymakers with the best available evidence regarding the planet’s biodiversity and ecosystems. On 6 May 2019 in Paris IPBES will launch their Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services; an overview of the state of nature, ecosystems and nature’s contributions to people. Prepared by 150 leading experts from 50 countries, it draws on 15,000 references and will help assess progress on global goals.

In advance of the report launch, Robert Watson is briefly in London and is coming into the SMC to be on hand to explain the background of IPBES.

Please note that Prof. Watson will be unable to discuss the contents of the report, which won’t be published until May. Rob Spaull, Head of Communications at IPBES will briefly run through the logistical details of the launch.

Speakers:

Prof. Sir Robert Watson, Chair of IPBES
