expert encounter – Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC

The UN’s top climate official, Christiana Figueres, came to London to meet with business leaders about agreeing a new and universal climate agreement by COP-21 in Paris, December 2015.

She came to the SMC to meet journalists in advance of the next part of IPCC AR5 – which itself will inform the negotiations towards a new treaty which begin in Bonn on 10 March this year.

Ms Figueres came to discuss subjects such as:

• where the world is and the importance of 2014 in terms of a new agreement
• the key milestones over the next nine months, including the UN Secretary General’s climate summit in September
• the growing role and momentum of cities, companies and other sectors in terms of securing a new agreement
