The World Meteorological Organization has released its new report The State of Global Water Resources 2025.
This annual report is an authoritative assessment of the hydrological cycle and freshwater resources – including lakes, river flow, groundwater, soil moisture, snow and ice, and extreme events like floods and droughts. It covers 2025 and the past five years since the report was first published in 2021. It highlights trends – for instance on river discharge and glacier retreat – which have big implications for the future.
