Study from the ISARIC team on health complications after hospitalisation with severe COVID-19

A new study, published in The Lancet, looks at complications in people hospitalised with severe COVID-19 between 17 January and 4 August 2020. The comprehensive study is the first to systematically assess a range of in-hospital complications, and their associations with age, sex and ethnicity, and their outcomes for the patients.

Journalists dialled in to the briefing to hear the study investigators present their results and answer any questions.

Speakers included:

Prof Calum Semple, Professor in Child Health and Outbreak Medicine, University of Liverpool, and ISARIC co-lead

Dr Annemarie Docherty, Wellcome Clinical Research Career Development Fellow and an Honorary Consultant in Critical Care, University of Edinburgh

Dr Thomas Drake, Clinical research fellow, University of Edinburgh
