The study was hailed as a step forward in our understanding of climate change, and confirms the theory that global warming may cause colder winters in Britain due to changes to ocean currents.
Dr. James Casford, Department of Geography, Durham University, said:
“This is an exciting step forward in our understanding of climate change. Reliable data from this new sensor array not only increases our understanding of ocean circulation, but provides confidence in our climate models and may even act as an early warning system for significant changes in the North Atlantic which could have big implications for the climate of Northern Europe and indeed the world.”
