inflammation as a core feature in people with depression

Researchers from King’s College London have studied data from the UK Biobank from over 86,000 participants, looking at information on mental health, markers of inflammation, environment, lifestyle behaviours, physical health and genetic links to specific diseases. This gave them the opportunity to investigate in detail, the relationship between inflammation and depression, and how each of these factors influence the association. The study has been published in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

Journalists dialled in to hear the authors present the findings of their study and answer any questions.

Speakers included:

Prof Carmine Pariante, Professor of Biological Psychiatry, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London

Prof Cathryn Lewis, Professor of Genetic Epidemiology & Statistics, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London
