expert reaction to unpublished conference abstract about semen quality after COVID infection

A conference abstract (not a published paper) presented at the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) looks at recovery time for sperm parameters in men who have suffered a mild COVID-19 infection.

Dr Ying Cheong, Professor of Reproductive Medicine, University of Southampton, said:

“Nunez-Calonge and colleagues set out to evaluate the recovery time for the sperm parameters in men with mild Covid.

“They conclude that sperm parameters are poorer after infection and the recovery time may be longer than 100 days.

“The results have to be interpreted with caution as the post-covid sperm collection period was not standardised, and varied from 17 to 516 days.”

What is the recovery time for sperm parameters in men who have suffered a mild Covid-19 infection?’ by R. Nunez–Calonge et al. was presented at ESHRE at 10.15am UK time on Monday 26 June 2023.
