expert reaction to travellers arriving in the UK from 75 countries no longer having to self-isolate for two weeks

The government have announced that travellers from a list of 75 countries will no longer have to self isolate for two weeks upon their arrival in the UK.

Prof Keith Neal, Emeritus Professor of the Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, University of Nottingham, said:

“Quarantining makes sense in certain circumstances.  Whilst we still have on-going transmission in the UK universal quarantine will achieve very little.  It will achieve even less for people returning from countries with lower disease rates than the UK.  They are less likely to acquire COVID-19 on holiday than whilst staying in the UK.

“The list needs to be reviewed probably twice a week in case countries have flare ups.”
