expert reaction to review paper looking at long COVID post-acute sequelae, with a focus on the cardiovascular system

A review paper published in the European Heart Journal looks at post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 with a cardiovascular focus.

Dr Louise Sigfrid, Public Health Specialist and Clinical Research Fellow, ISARIC Global Support Centre, Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health, University of Oxford, said:

“Although this is not a systematic review, this study adds to others, further highlighting the risk of complications following SARS-CoV-2 infection,  and the need for access to appropriate diagnostic assessments of people presenting with new or persistent symptoms following infection.

“Moreover, there is an urgent need for further research into impact, from a population health and health inequalities aspect, as well as into aetiology, safe interventions and care to inform clinical management guidelines and improve long term Covid-19 outcomes for all.”

‘Long COVID: post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 with a cardiovascular focus’ by Betty Raman et al. was published in the European Heart Journal at 00:01 UK time on Friday 18 February 2022.
