Research suggested that people with autism may have more highly-developed visual centres in the brain.
Dr Christine Ecker, Lecturer in Neuroimaging Sciences, Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, said:
“This interesting review clearly highlights that autism should not only be seen as a condition with behavioural difficulties but can also be associated with particular skills. Furthermore, these skills are related to the way the brain processes information, which may provide valuable insights into the biology and underlying causes of autism. Knowing the strengths and difficulties of someone with autism may help to better understand their needs and help them maximize their unique potential.”
