expert reaction to MHRA regulatory change which means the Pfizer and Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines can be used as booster doses

The Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have issued a statement on booster doses of Pfizer and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.

Dr Peter English, Retired Consultant in Communicable Disease Control, Former Editor of Vaccines in Practice, Immediate past Chair of the BMA Public Health Medicine Committee, said:

“The MHRA approves or licenses vaccines and medicines.

“JCVI and the chief medical officer advise ministers.

“Ministers then decide on what vaccination programmes to fund and implement.

“This press release confirms the MHRA’s role.”
