There are now a total of 456 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the UK, a rise of 83 from the previous day.
Prof Keith Neal, Emeritus Professor of the Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, University of Nottingham, said:
“The increase is in line with what might be expected.
“Where the cases acquired the infection remains very important. If they are acquired abroad, the strategy of identifying people at high risk of having acquired coronavirus is interrupting potential sources of ongoing transmission with isolation/quarantine and is working well. If they are UK acquired they reflect chains of transmission which is more concerning.”
