The Government announced plans to introduce plain-packet cigarette packaging in an attempt to reduce the number of children drawn into smoking.
Prof Paul Aveyard, Professor of behavioural medicine, University of Oxford, said:
“It’s good news that this is back on the Government’s agenda. It would have been best if the Government had announced its intention to legislate today. We already have reviews of the effects of plain packaging showing effects on children’s and adults’ perceptions of smoking. I am confident that the review will recommend proceeding to legislate and I hope that will be soon.”
