expert comment on the 3rd report of the Co-SPACE study tracking young people’s mental health during COVID-19

Prof Cathy Creswell, professor of developmental clinical psychology at the University of Oxford, has sent the below quote about the 3rd report of the Co-SPACE study on which she is a co-author:

“Over 10,000 parents and carers have so far taken part in the Co-SPACE study to track children and young people’s mental health throughout the COVID-19 crisis. In response to recent developments we added specific questions about concerns about children and young people returning to school. A subgroup of parents completed these items over the last week. While the findings are not necessarily representative of the general population, they highlight that families are who have taken part in the study are clearly as concerned, if not more so, about the negative effects of the measures that are being put in place to mitigate the risk of the spread of covid-19, as they are about their child actually catching or spreading it. The findings also highlight particular concerns for particular families, such as those where children have special educational needs.”

Report 03: Parents/carers report on their own and their children’s concerns about children attending school is attached and will be uploaded to their website later in the week.
