Data from Scotland on Omicron severity from the EAVE II Study

The EAVE II (Early Pandemic Evaluation and Enhanced Surveillance of COVID-19) project has been tracking the COVID-19 pandemic in near real-time in Scotland.

A new study from the team looks at severity of the Omicron variant of concern and vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic disease. Please note this data is a preprint, so it is early work that has not yet been through peer-review, though has been submitted to a journal.

Journalists dialled in to this briefing to hear from the scientists who have done the research and ask them any questions.

Speakers included:

Prof Aziz Sheikh, Director of the Usher Institute, and Professor of Primary Care Research & Development, University of Edinburgh; and EAVE II study lead

Prof Chris Robertson, Professor of Public Health Epidemiology, University of Strathclyde

Prof Mark Woolhouse, Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, University of Edinburgh

Dr Jim McMenamin, National Covid-19 Incident Director, Public Health Scotland

This Briefing was accompanied by an SMC Roundup of Comments.
