COVID-19: the risk to charity-funded research

The Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) put together a group of speakers to explain the impact of new statistics highlighting the staggering loss of income experienced by medical research charities during the COVID-19 pandemic and what it means for the research they fund – amounting to over half of publicly funded UK medical research.

The experts on the panel are leaders of household names in the medical research charity sector, including two of the three largest research charity funders in the UK, and were able to elaborate on the devastating impact the pandemic has had on their charities, how this will affect patients across the UK, and what they propose as potential solutions.

Speakers included:

Aisling Burnand MBE, Chief Executive of Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC)

Steve Ford, Chief Executive of Parkinson’s UK

Dr Charmaine Griffiths, Chief Executive of the British Heart Foundation (BHF)

Michelle Mitchell OBE, Chief Executive of Cancer Research UK
