Professor Sir Jim Skea, Chair of the IPCC

Against the backdrop of the London Climate Action Week 2026, the Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Professor Sir Jim Skea, will be back at the Science Media Centre to meet science and environment journalists.

Jim updated reporters on the progress of the seventh assessment cycle and the work on the seven planned IPCC reports. These include three reports scheduled for release next year – Special Report on Climate Change and Cities, Methodology Report on Short-lived Climate Forcers, and Methodology Report on Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage.  He also provided an update on the three Working Group contributions to the Seventh Assessment Report and the Synthesis Report, which is scheduled for release in late 2029.  He touched upon topics such as the Paris Agreement goals, emission scenarios, and exceedance of a global warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. He answered questions related to IPCC work in the current cycle.
