fossil CO2 emissions in the post-COVID era

Five years after the adoption of the Paris Agreement on climate change, growth in global CO2 emissions has begun to falter. A new study published in Nature Climate Change looks at countries’ progress in tackling CO2 emissions since 2015, how the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the trajectory of global CO2 emissions and what needs to be done to sustain a decline in global emissions in the post-COVID era.

Journalists dialled in to hear the study authors present their results and answer any questions.

Speakers included:

Prof Corinne Le Quéré FRS, Royal Society Professor of Climate Change Science at the University of East Anglia

Prof Rob Jackson, Douglas Provostial Professor, Department of Earth System Science, Stanford University

Dr Glen Peters, Research Director for Climate Mitigation, CICERO Center for International Climate Research, Oslo, Norway

This Briefing was accompanied by an SMC Roundup of Comments.
