water, weather and climate change

This summer’s much vaunted hosepipe ban was called off at the eleventh hour this summer. But even so, three experts came to the SMC to to speak on:

  • Why did we get so close to a hose-pipe ban this summer?
  • Are future summers going to be similar in terms of the exceptional heat and dryness we saw this year
  • How is this influenced by climate change
  • What are the impacts of such hot dry summers on agriculture, environment and navigation
  • What is taking place to protect our water resources and what does the future hold?
