Modelling future treatments for Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease affects over 500,000 people in the UK and research into potential treatments is seen as highly critical by the scientific community and government. There are currently no treatments available to arrest, slow down, or prevent the disease, although some may help with symptoms. While scientists and clinicians are hopeful that research will eventually yield useful medications for Alzheimer’s disease, the impact and cost of introducing these treatments into the healthcare system is uncertain.

Alzheimer’s Research UK has commissioned a study modelling the economics of hypothetical disease-modifying therapies for Alzheimer’s disease in anticipation of the future introduction of such treatments.
