fertility preservation in women and girls – new policy and practice guideline from the british fertility society

The British Fertility Society has produced a new policy and practice guideline for fertility preservation in women and girls for medical (but not social) reasons, which they will be publishing during the Fertility 2018 conference in January.  The guideline, which is aimed at medics, evaluates the evidence for the different techniques including egg and ovarian tissue freezing and ovarian transposition (moving the ovaries away from an area undergoing radiotherapy, for example).

Come to the SMC to hear authors of the guideline and experts speaking at the conference discuss aspects such as:

– are there risks associated with these techniques?

– what techniques are available for pre-pubescent young girls?

– how can fertility be preserved in women undergoing cancer treatment?

– what about people transitioning gender from female to male?

– how long can tissue, eggs or embryos be stored for, and why?

Speakers:

Dr Melanie Davies, Consultant, Department of Women’s Health, University College London Hospitals

Dr Ephia Yasmin, Clinical Lead of Reproductive Medicine Unit, Department of Women’s Health, University College London Hospitals

Dr James Barrett, Lead Clinician at the Gender Identity Clinic, Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust
