Plans to build the world’s first tidal power lagoon have been rejected by the UK government.
Prof Roger Kemp FREng, Professorial Fellow at Lancaster University, said:
“A disappointing decision. Tidal power cannot be compared directly with offshore wind as we can predict the tides years in advance but it is difficult to look more than a week ahead with wind. What matters is the capital investment needed to ensure security of supply and, unfortunately, the government’s current decision-making, based on £/MWh, is not focused on this.”
